When it comes to politics people just love to speculate. And that’s what’s going on in Arizona regarding whether or not Representative Gabrielle Giffords will run in 2012, and if not, will her husband, recently retired astronaut, Mark Kelly?
It was just a few days ago when Giffords and Kelly announced that they will be writing a memoir together. If history tells us anything it’s that writing a book – aka keeping yourself in the spotlight – is usually a tell-tale sign that someone is running for office, or at least considering it.
Although Kelly has retired to take care of his wife on her road to recovery, he did post on Facebook the following: “After some time off, I will look at new opportunities and am hopeful that one day I will again serve our country.” Is this his sly way of alluding to a potential run for the soon-to-be open seat in the Arizona senate? An astronaut would make a fine candidate, and the fact that he’s a veteran would also play in his favor.
No matter what the future holds for Giffords and Kelly, one thing for sure is that right now the two are focused on her recovery. So we’ll let those who want to speculate, speculate away. It will give those people something to do until 2012.
