The party planning business is having a good year with a little help from the Middleton family, according to The Daily Mail. With Carole and Michael Middleton’s Party Pieces, Kate and Pippa’s parents, reportedly earning them a handsome sum, thousands of Brits have been striving to emulate their success and I’m sure Americans aren’t far behind. According to The Daily Mail, findings show that the month after their daughter married Prince William, requests for new event businesses rose by 55%. Prior to the royal wedding there had been a lull in the industry and interest had dipped by 20% during 2010. When Kate announced her engagement to Prince William last year, thousands flocked to the Middleton’s website and the number of browsers quadrupled to nearly 300,000. There was a 25-fold increase in the number of people typing the company name into the Google search engine. We have discovered the ultimate small business secret: just have your daughter marry royalty and her sister be a great dresser with an internationally admired butt!
“The Middletons have certainly raised the profile of the industry as a whole,” said Jude Freeman from Cheltenham, who has been running a party business since September. And let’s not forget the whole other boost the industry is going to get when Pippa’s party planning book comes out next December. According to a source, “It will be about entertaining and how to throw the perfect party. It’s not just about being the perfect hostess – it will also include recipes and information about how to host different types of events.” The Daily Mail reports Middleton has struck a $622,000 deal with U.K. publisher Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin, to write How to Be the Perfect Party Hostess.
The party planning industry is dominated by women with 81%of party planning businesses are founded by women and it is now the 16th most popular female start-up business, up 19 places since 2009. But they could still always use help from the Middleton sisters.
The Middleton ladies have also had a tremendous impact on the fashion industry and in particular pantyhose. They have managed to make itchy, hot tights seem cool. They have done the impossible. According to a poll done on WhatKateWore.com, 1,861 female voters said that Kate looks so good in hosiery that they are considering the look themselves.
