The process is simple.” People do make mistakes at work all the time, some of them really quite detrimental (not Bernie Madoff level, but pretty bad.) You may think your job is over when you do this but actually how you handle making a mistake can provide an opportunity for innovation and earnestness that you wouldn’t have had normally. We talked to the experts about 10 things not to do when you make a mistake at work.

      Generally when I make a mistake at a job I usually cower in the bathroom and weep until my eyes have turned away from red. Then I return to my desk/cubicle and hope no one noticed.

      So step 2 is dont wait until you have a solution, reveal the mistake right away. And step 3 is dont bring the mistake to your boss without a solution.

      step 8 is beat self-deprecate so you boss doesn’t have to, and step 9 is don’t self-deprecate. this is great

      what they’re trying to say is own up to it, think about what you can do to fix the problem when you go to your boss. Once you apologize, don’t beat *yourself* up, i.e. stop feeling horrible about it and move on.
