There’s a reason that a shapeless white lab coat still gets your blood boiling and your pulse racing. And it has nothing to do with Patrick Dempsy or any other Grey’s Anatomy cast member. That coat doesn’t just have the ability to turn a teen heart throb into Doctor McDreamy, it also has the power to make it’s wearer more focused and attentive. That’s right, just slipping on a doctor’s coat can make your mind perk up and pay attention.

Researchers are studying not just how our clothing makes others perceive us, they’re looking at the ways that our fashion choices can change our self-perception and even our psychological processes. The New York Times reports that “Clothes invade the body and brain, putting the wearer into a different psychological state.” This is all based on the work of Dr. Adam Galinsky at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. His continuing research is showing just how important your attire can be to your state of mine.

So I decided to take a little office poll. With the amazing editors and contributors at B5 as a resource, I wanted to find out just what these successful women slip on to feel more intelligent, more focused and better suited for their job. Here’s what the B5 ladies turn to when they need a little extra focus and image reinforcement.
