Tonight is the annual Met Costume Institute Ball and the queen of the fashion industry, Anna Wintour, is in full micro-managing mode for her staff. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the Vogue Editor in Chief has asked all the editors to wear pink dresses. But just to make sure everyone looks up to Vogue’s standards, Anna required editors to take pictures of themselves in their dresses, with a few different hairstyle options, and send them to her.
The pink is in honor of Elsa Schiaparelli, one of the two designers being honored tonight at the Met’s new Costume Institute exhibit, “Impossible Conversations.” Schiaparelli was known for her signature “shocking pink.” Well it is either in honor of Schiaparelli or the Plastics of the film Mean Girls. I could totally see Anna being a fan of that.
Even though Anna claims to not be a very powerful person, this contradicts that. “I assure you all the people that work with me on a day-to-day basis don’t think that. That’s just something that’s been fabricated by the media. And as you well know once something is out there, particularly in today’s world, it just gets exaggerated. I keep my head down and do the job to the best of my ability,” she told Forbes. Then again, she just wants her staff to look good and to respect the guest of honor. And there is nothing wrong with pink.
