Thank God: Sofia Vergara Beat Out Kim Kardashian For Top Earning Woman In TV

Forbes just named Sofia Vergara as the top earning television actress, mostly due to her multiple endorsement deals. According to Forbes, Sofia earned $19 million this year and her Modern Family salary is only a small part of that. You may be surprised to hear that Sofia is actually an ace businesswoman and she has been for years. This is great news but what is even greater is she beat out second place taker Kim Kardashian who also has multiple endorsement deals but possesses zero talent, no pizazz (unlike Sofia who has tons) and makes me cry for America everytime I watch her.

Even though American audiences have only known her name for a few years (though she did date Tom Cruise a little but before Katie) Sofia has building her empire for a long time. In 1996 she founded Latin World Entertainment which just earned $27 million in revenues. She also has a clothing line at Kmart (for which she received a $7 million advance), and has snagged multiple endorsement deals – in English and Spanish – for Burger King, Pepsi and other companies. “If we really want to talk about Sofia Vergara, we’re talking about Sofia Incorporated. She’s earning more than $12 million in endorsement deals alone,” Forbes staff writer Meghan Casserly said. Pretty impressive for a woman who only came to the U.S. in 1995.  The bombshell actress covers Forbes this month.

A lot of her success is due to her appeal to Hispanic audiences (Sofia is from Barranquilla, Colombia.) The Hispanic market in the U.S. is estimated to be something over $1 trillion in consumer spending. Casserly wrote, “In Vergara, television has found the cross-over star it’s been waiting for since Desi Arnaz left the airwaves. Her appeal with Hispanics is unrivaled; she has a positive Q Score more than twice that of the average celebrity. And with the ABC smash hit Modern Family, Vergara’s won over American audiences without alienating her Latina roots. For advertisers, the combination is electric.”

Other TV ladies on the list included Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Bethenny Frankel, Melissa McCarthy, Kaley Cuoco, Mariska Hargitay, Courtney Cox and Zooey Deschanel.
