“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”-Coco Chanel
Today is legendary designer Coco Chanel’s birthday and though we could just go on and on about the importance of her designs and how essential Chanel ballet flats are to anyone’s, wardrobe we want to celebrate her life as a brilliant businesswoman. Because Coco Chanel was truly an entrepreneur that was ahead of her time. She broke rules, she got investors (often by sleeping with them), she networked like crazy and changed the way women dressed forever. Her nearly 100-year old fashion house is still going strong, under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld, and her clothes, accessories, bags and perfume continue to sell. Supposedly, someone somewhere in the world buys a bottle every 30 seconds. He has taken Coco Chanel’s legacy of LBDs, tailored jackets and skirts, and wearable separates, and tweaked them to make them appealing to a whole new generation and generations to come. According to Forbes, Chanel has a net worth of $4.5 billion.

We decided to look at this woman’s most important career moments.
