“Childbirth is more admirable than conquest, more amazing than self-defense, and as courageous as either one.” — Gloria Steinem
It may very well be one of the happiest times in your life, but all of a sudden your clothes don’t fit. You’re beyond excited to welcome baby into your life, but he or she is taking his or her time, and meanwhile you need to look professional at work.
Don’t make the mistake of wearing maternity clothes too early. Doing so can often make you appear larger than you actually are. While the body does swell during the first trimester, and each woman’s body is different, often women don’t start showing until the second. Make use of the larger (and stretchier) clothes in your pre-pregnancy closet. Get savvy and hook your pre-pregnancy pants together with safety pins or a hair tie, and add a loose-fitting top.
Here’s your one pregnancy fashion rule: If it’s comfortable and looks good, it works.
Of course, maintain your personal style. When your belly, and the rest of you, starts growing, think about the three to five pre-pregnancy wardrobe staples you couldn’t live without, and purchase them in maternity styles. Obviously you don’t want to spend a ton of money on an entirely new pregnancy wardrobe, so find pieces you can mix and match.
Towards the end of your pregnancy, don’t stress if only a few pieces in your clothing arsenal still fit. People will understand! I’m sure you’d much rather save money for when baby arrives anyway.
Here are eight pieces that are perfect to wear to work when you’re prego.
