Jessica Simpson Is About To Cash In On All That Baby Weight

The moment is almost here. Jessica Simpson is about to reveal her post-pregnancy baby body on the Sept. 10 premiere of Katie Couric’s new talk show, Katie. She’ll also appear in Weight Watchers ads beginning next week. She is apparently only 10 pounds away from her pre-baby size which makes the $4 million dollar deal she signed with Weight Watchers even sweeter. Though there was some doubt that Jessica would not lose the weight in time, clearly Jessica had her eye on the prize. The is baby weight loss compensation will just be another part of her business empire.

Jessica has been milking this pregnancy for all that it is worth since the beginning. Starting with posing nude at a pregnancy weight of 170 pounds on the cover of Elle in April. Then there was the People Magazine photo spread of the first pictures of her daughter, Maxwell, for the price of $800,000. She also launched a maternity line with Destination Maternity in May. And now we will see the Weight Watchers deal finally pay off. She has been keeping her fans abreast of her weight loss progress via Twitter. “Just bought all the girls in my @weightwatchers group pedometers to track their steps. 10,000 steps a day = 5 miles! Let’s step it up!” she tweeted July 19.

Jessica is a smart business woman. According to WWD,d The Jessica Simpson Collection, has become one of the most successful celebrity fashion lines of all time. It will most likely become the first ever to earn more than a billion dollars in retail sales considering her line brought in a whopping $750,000,000 in retail sales last year alone, WWD reports. As a result her estimated net worth from her designs is $100 million.So when Weight Watchers came along, Jessica eagerly accepted the challenge of putting her baby weight loss on an accelerated timeline.“I didn’t realize it (the weight) didn’t all come off with the baby,” Simpson said in a recent interview.  The literal business of weight loss is a very lucrative industry and now B-list celebrities can use it as a major leveraging platform to get them to A-list exposure levels. The annual revenue of the U.S. weight loss industry, including diet books, diet drugs and weight loss surgeries is$20 billion and celebrities want a piece of that pie.  Jessica Simpson hasn’t done a movie or produced an album in years, but her fashion career has blown up. And now her $4 million contract will make her star power even larger (excuse the pun. )

Though it has been hard work, her struggle to lose weight is part of the reason she got the Weight Watchers Deal in the first place. “I’m not a supermodel. My body is not bouncing back like a supermodel,” she told USA Today. “I’m just your everyday woman who is trying to feel good and be healthy for her daughter, her fiancé and herself.” Simpson has already done a great job with her fashion line of appealing and relating to middle America and convincing everyone she is still just a Texas girl. Now she will show an even more human side facing a struggle that many women do as well. “Her talent, resilience and positive outlook already make her a great role model,” the company said. “And by deciding to trade in yo-yo dieting for a healthier lifestyle, we know she will inspire many women to join her.”
