Umm, does Jessica Simpson have a lawyer? You’d think a woman who runs a nearly billion-dollar fashion empire would have a lawyer to look over contracts because this seems like a detail you’d want to look over a few times. On the premiere of Katie Couric’s new show Katie, Jessica told the host she won’t receive the any of the money from her $3 million deal with Weight Watchers until she reaches her target weight.
On the plus side, she has already lost 40 pounds and looks great. But shouldn’t she get money for just doing that? She only gave birth in May! “I put on more baby weight than I was planning on putting on,” she said to Couric. “I really have to separate myself from the world’s expectations and really just look inside myself and be healthy with myself.” There was speculation back in June that if she didn’t lose the weight on time she could mess up her deal with Weight Watchers. I don’t think she can really lose the contract at this point considering that she has already made a commercial for the company (that shows her mostly from the shoulders up.) But don’t they have to pay her for the commercial?
Jessica is usually a very smart business woman and has been milking this pregnancy for all that it is worth since the beginning which is why you think her contract would have been different. Starting with posing nude at a pregnancy weight of 170 pounds on the cover of Elle in April. Then there was the People Magazine photo spread of the first pictures of her daughter, Maxwell, for the price of $800,000. She also launched a maternity line with Destination Maternity in May.
But she still has 10-20 pounds to go. Weight Watchers hired Jessica because they think she portrays a realistic image of a real women. “Her talent, resilience and positive outlook already make her a great role model,” the company said. “And by deciding to trade in yo-yo dieting for a healthier lifestyle, we know she will inspire many women to join her.”
And real women, as we know, don’t get paid until the job is done.
