Kate Middleton’s Photo Scandal Is Hurting Her Sister’s Career

Last fall we wrote about how Pippa Middleton was benefiting immensely from her sister Kate’s new position as one half of the hottest royal couple on the planet. Some were criticizing Pippa, including The Queen, for using her newfound fame, to further her career (Pippa had just landed her book deal.) But now it seems that the tables have been turned. Pippa is now turning down opportunities to promote her book in the U.S., Celebrate: A Year of Festivities for Families and Friends, including appearances on Oprah, Ellen and Anderson Cooper as well as a hosting gig on Entertainment Tonight, because the focus will eventually turn to her sister’s recent topless photos.

HuffPo says skipping these appearances could cause her to lose out on an estimated revenue of $600,000, according to NYDN‘s “marketing experts.” Back in January, television titans like Oprah and Barbara Walters were throwing around numbers like $300,000 to get Pippa on their couch. Turning down Ellen, Oprah and Anderson, means she could be losing out on similar money.

According to Now Daily, Kate has set up Pippa with the Royal Family’s PR team in order to prepare her for any questions on the scandal but if she isn’t doing any interviews, we’re not sure why that would be necessary. Viking, the book’s publisher, confirmed to NYDN that the new author will not be available for any interviews.

Pippa should be using her newfound fame to help launch her career but at the same time she cannot be too mad that she may not get to promote her book to the level she wants because of her sister. She wouldn’t have a book deal in the first place if it wasn’t for her sister but at the same time, that is a lot of money to be missing out on. However, considering what Pippa and Kate have done for clothing lines, shoes, pantyhose and the party planning industry, without speaking to the press, getting people to buy her book shouldn’t be too hard. In fact, this  may be the secret to get people reading again.
