Big news in Hollywood today. Kristin Wiig may be signing on for the highly anticipated Anchorman sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Wiig will possibly play the love interest of Brick Tamland (Steve Carell). Apparently, lamp has some competition. Get it?
Anchorman is a hilarious and silly film but we can actually learn a few lessons from it. The treatment of women in the workplace in the 1970s, though somewhat exaggerated in the film rang true in real life. And in the old boys’ club that is broadcast news, a female anchor (Christina Applegate) back then would have definitely presented some awkward situations of not blatant sexual harassment (watch this clip.) It was hilarious to watch the men in the film torture Applegate’s Veronica Corningstone but anything like that in real life would be grotesquely illegal today.
We can only hope that we get to see Kristin Wiig’s character treated equally as bad in the film because frankly, it was hilarious.
Or maybe she will just get herself a little afternoon delight. Stay classy Grindstone.
