The Hollywood Reporter put out its ‘Power Women In Hollywood’ issue this week and found that Dreamworks Studios is a great place for the ladies. Over 85% of the studio’s producers are women. Dreamworks really is a magical place and not just for Shrek.
Those producers include Mireille Soria (the Madagascar franchise) and Rise of the Guardians’ Christina Steinberg and Nancy Bernstein. COO Ann Daly, Chief Accounting Officer Heather O’Connor and worldwide marketing chief Anne Globe, all nabbed spots on the THR list in the top 10 (Daly was number two.)
Women not only rule at Dreamworks but they also thrive. In large part due to the studio’s supportiveness of women. CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg “has always been very supportive of women,” says Globe. “You can have a life and still work here. He understands how important it is to be flexible.”
Katzenberg likes to promote from within like in-house animator Jennifer Yuh Nelson who was given the opportunity to direct the sequel to Kung-Fu Panda. She received an Oscar nomination for her work as well as $655.7 at the box office.
