Being a supermodel is hard, you guys. The shoes are so ridiculous you fall down on the runway. You can barely eat. And now Kate Upton has revealed that she got frostbite while posing in a bikini on the South Pole. Brrr!
Upton’s South Pole shoot made the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, but apparently it was no easy feat. The average high temperature at the South Pole is about -49 F. “When I came back, I was like losing hearing and eyesight because my body was shutting down, it was working so hard to keep me warm,” Upton told the Today show. “It was freezing. I’m from Florida so, it wasn’t great for me.”
First of all, Kate, -49F is really, really cold, even if you’re not from Florida. So no shame in feeling a bit nippy. But the story has a happy ending: Kate is fine. The cover photo is pretty stunning; I am a straight woman and I’m mesmerized by it, frankly. The photos made the cover of Sports Illustrated, and also a giant billboard in Manhattan.
And Upton apparently has no hard feelings over the frigid shoot. TMZ captured some behind-the-scenes photos that made clear she was at least wearing warm boots (and, bizarrely, spent some time hugging a giant Oreo?) “Sports Illustrated really launched my career and I have a lot to thank them for” Upton told Today. All’s well that ends warm.
