Zooey Deschanel Starts Production Company, Already Inks A Deal

deschanel1-copyGood news for all you bangs-sporting, Sweet Valley High-reading, scarf-knitting, teacup dress-wearing, delicate gossamer spirits out there: Zooey Deschanel and her Hello Giggles partner Sophia Rossi launched a production company, and it just signed a two-year first-look deal with 20th Century Fox TV, the producers of Deschanel’s New Girl. Now you may be able to live your twee life and watch it too.

The deal with 20th TV stipulates that the partners will focus on developing comedies and drama. Producing is not a new venture for Deschanel or Rossi: currently, Deschanel has a producer credit on New Girl and earlier this season, the duo paired up with fellow Hello Giggles editor Molly McAleer to executive produce Must Be Nice, a comedy written by New Girl consulting producer J.J Philbin, produced by 20th TV and sold to Fox.

“We’ve known Zooey as an actress through New Girl, and as we got to know her as a producer through the script she developed, we quickly realized that there is so much more to her,” Gary Newman, 20th TV chairman, said. “Zooey and Sophia have their finger on the pulse of young people and particularly young women, and we really responded to that.”
