Lean In Wants to Know What You Would Do If You Weren’t Afraid

Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg’s non-profit organization, is challenging recent female graduates to overcome their fear and take risks. The organization asked young women in and around New York to answer one question: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

The impromptu responses have been compiled into a staggering video that reveals a generation afflicted with hesitancy and low expectations. “Why do women harbor such fear,” the Lean In team asks.

Over the next month, more than 1 million women in this country will graduate from college. They will enter the workforce with higher GPAs than their male peers. Many will continue on to earn advanced degrees. They will make up the majority of the workforce.  For these bright young women, the world is their oyster. Or is it? Studies show that even after college, women are less ambitious than their male peers. They avoid leadership roles. They are afraid to speak up…Why are they afraid to raise their hands?
