The Most Productive Time Of Day Is Sort Of A Bummer

Too late - conceptual alarm clock showing that you are too late

Unfortunately for most of us, a lot of our most productive hours of the day are wasted. Why? Because studies show that our most productive time of the day is two hours after we wake up.

If you have a long or even average commute, combine that with the time it takes you to get shower, get dressed and get out the door, and that’s a huge chunk of your primetime productivity wasted on a subway or stuck in a tunnel somewhere.

Duke University behavioral scientist Dan Ariely explains, “One of the saddest mistakes in time management is the propensity of people to spend the two most productive hours of their day on things that don’t require high cognitive capacity (like social media). If we could salvage those precious hours, most of us would be much more successful in accomplishing what we truly want.”

Some hacks to getting around this? Planning out your outfits, packing your lunch and purse, showering and the like the night before. And having an easy-to-style haircut can’t hurt, either.
