You Can Get Fired For Using The Wrong Transgender Pronoun

As employers seek to get more transgender friendly, the government is following suit — and the results for the average Jane can be costly. The New York Post reports that employers who refuse to use pronouns like “ze/hir” in reference to transgender workers who request them may be forced to pay up to $250,000 in fines.

For those not quite in the know, “ze” refers to the third-person singular that a transgender person may prefer instead of “he” or “she,” and “zir” is used in place of “they.” If it helps, make a chart, keep it by your desk, and avoid a human resources talk. Those rarely end well for anyone.
