Donald Trump is proving to not be boosting daughter Ivanka Trump, at least not in terms of her clothing line. (We’re pretty sure being his daughter boosted her in general, because nepotism is very real.)
Nordstrom has stopped carrying Ivanka’s line of clothing and accessories, though they insisted to The Hollywood Reporter that her father’s politics didn’t influence their decision.
“We’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance,” Nordstrom said in a statement on Friday. “We’ve got thousands of brands — more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business. Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”
A rep for the line also told Refinery 29, This was absolutely not political — it was exclusively based on the performance of the brand. This kind of decision is not one we take lightly for any brand we work with. Simply put, the performance has been difficult over the past year … Nordstrom ordered both apparel and shoes for the spring, and followed through with the orders on the apparel. They canceled the shoe order, kept the apparel order and moved the apparel from online into stores. It’s there.”” However, a brand source insisted to the site that there actually was a lot of political pressure to drop the First Daughter.
ABC News reports that Neiman Marcus also dropped the line.
If Ivanka’s line wasn’t selling, perhaps it’s because of the #GrabYourWallet campaign, which encourages people to avoid any Trump-related products in general. That campaign probably gained some anti-Ivanka traction after she made the tone-deaf move to post this photo while her dad’s immigration ban kept a lot of innocent people detained at airports.
