In November 2016, two female employees at the New York Post put together this viral video about the Milk Riders, a lesbian motorcycle gang that delivers breast milk to babies: Cut to January 5, 2017. Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, an … More

Leslie Knope doesn’t spend a lot of time thinking about fashion—all her brain space not occupied with her town is crammed with thoughts of Li’l Sebastian and Ben’s butt. More
Taylor Swift is a talented young singer with a career that’s going gangbusters. She also, like Anne Hathaway, is a young woman that seems to irritate other young women a lot for no discernible reason. Is Hathaway too girly, perhaps? Does Swift spend too much time to pretending to be shocked, just shocked, at her success? Does she date too many guys, whatever that means for an attractive, successful 20-something woman? Regardless, she’s been the butt of many jokes lately, including one at the Golden Globes that apparently hurt her feelings. Now, Globes co-host and my future best friend Amy Poehler has apologized for being a mean girl. More
Oscars, you’ve got your work cut out for you: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it at the Golden Globes last night. Their opening monologue (er, dialogue?) was filled with genuine LOLs, and the ceremony itself lived up to the loopy promise of an awards show at which tables are stocked with champagne. Jodie Foster came out of the closet! Bill Clinton appeared from nowhere! Jennifer Lawrence bragged, “I beat Meryl!” (Click through to watch the full opening monologue.) More
The Golden Globes will take place on January 13, and let’s be honest: The most exciting thing about them is that they’re going to be hosted by hilarious, inspirational BFFs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. I would watch those two host an awards ceremony for a regional toilet-paper manufacturing association. That said, nominations were announced this morning, and there were some interesting surprises! Leslie Knope, our favorite television female politician is finally meeting her celebrity crush, Vice President Joe Biden, on next week’s episode of Parks & Recreation. More
This week it was announced that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be the hosts of The Golden Globes this winter. “It’s exciting to have two of the most respected names in comedy. Amy and Tina’s well known chemistry along with their spontaneity and glamour makes them a perfect fit for the Golden Globes,” the show’s producers said in a totally unspontaneous, unglamorous statement released last week. As you may have noticed, we are very big fans of both these women on The Grindstone so we could not be happier and we think most people feel the same way. Like Saturday Night Live’s Seth Meyers tweeted, “Poehler and Fey hosting the Golden Globes is excellent news for those who love good times.” Quite right Seth. Here are six reasons we’re thrilled Amy and Tina are hosting the Globes. More
Last night on The Grindstone, Meredith Lepore asked “How much would you pay to hang out with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for a night?” (My answer: 17 katrillion dollars.) Good news this morning: Fey and Poehler are now yours for free. The duo will be co-hosting the Golden Globes in January. You can go back to bed now because this is the best news you’ll be hearing all day. More
In case you haven’t noticed, we are pretty big fans of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler over here at The Grindstone. Besides being hilarious, these women are writers, producers, directors, mothers and just all around great ladies. If I ever met one of them, I probably wouldn’t be able to form words, but I supposed if I paid to hang out with them for a night, I would have to try. Well two women will get that chance as they bought a night with this talented duo at Comedy Central’s Night of Too Many Stars benefit in New York City. Two women ended up paying $36,000 each for the privilege of being the duo’s best friends for the night. I would think these women are worth more or possibly priceless but $72,000 will have to do.

Oh good. It has been a few months since this ol’ “only ugly women can be funny” argument was brought up and I just felt like something was missing from my life. On the Emmys on Sunday, Deadline columnist Nikki Finke wrote after Julie Bowen won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress (for the second year in a row) that “beautiful actresses are not funny” and “only women who grew up ugly and stayed ugly, or through plastic surgery became beautiful” deserve our laughs and awards. The opening sketch at The Emmys made it very clear who was running this show. Women, though they won less awards than men last night, ruled the Emmys. Jimmy Kimmel tried, but it was the women of the night that tried to be funny all the way from 5 year old Aubrey Anderson-Emmons to Amy Poehler. And though they didn’t all win for their work for last night, it seemed like it was women who took more risks in television this year.
We knew Amy Poehler has a great sense of humor, but she makes sure to remind us of this at the Emmys every year. Amy has been nominated for Best Actress for the past three years for Parks & Recreation (and two before that for Saturday Night Live) and has planned some sort of joke for her and her fellow nominees at each ceremony. We didn’t think she could top last year’s beauty pageant stand off but she may have done it with the speech switch with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. More
Almost all the good TV shows are off the air in mid-July, so what better time to be reminded of the awesomeness of last year and the good things still to come? Kerry Washington announced the Emmy nominees at a ceremony this morning, and although the Emmys are notorious for rewarding the same people over and over (holla, Kelsey Grammer!) this year’s list includes some exciting, non-inevitable picks, including new girl Lena Dunham and New Girl Zooey Deschanel.
