There has been a lot of talk about brainstorming this week and the fact that it is not as effective as we once thought. According to new research from Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, when people are in groups, they lose IQ points. Small-group dynamics — such as jury deliberations, collective bargaining sessions, and cocktail parties — can alter the expression of IQ in some susceptible people. And the study found that women were far more likely to see a drop in their “expressed IQ” (their performance in the group tasks), versus their actual IQ, than the men. More
