Is love dead? Not necessarily, unless you’re in love with a freeloader: The American Sociological Review published a new study that says one of the lead causes of divorce in America is a male spouse who doesn’t have a fulltime … More
When Katie Holmes suddenly divorced Tom Cruise this summer, it seemed like a chance for her to revitalize her career after a series of underwhelming roles she took on during her marriage. (Mad Money, anyone?) Now her big Broadway comeback will end after just seven weeks, due to poor ticket sales: Last week the play had the lowest attendance of any on Broadway.
There’s a rumor going around this morning that Donald Trump is about to reveal divorce papers filed (and obviously retracted) by Barack and Michelle Obama sometime over the course of their two-decade marriage. If so, this will mark a real low point in this presidential campaign. But it will won’t be the sleaziest bit of news to emerge over the course of this long election. Top honors still belongs to Republican primary candidate Herman Cain, hounded out of the campaign after a string of revelations about past accusations of sexual harassment, and an affair that was said to last 13 years. Now, Ginger White, the woman who says she was Cain’s long-term mistress, is coming forward — and she sounds pissed. “In your face, America,” she says, using a phrase that would be a pretty awesome book title. “Because you put me through hell.” More
Well, this is going to definitely be a little awkward for Tory Burch and Chris Burch’s children. WWD reports that Chris has filed a six-count lawsuit against his ex-wife and former business partner as well as the boardmembers of Tory Burch LLC and Isla Capital, a subsidiary of a private equity firm with a stake in the company. According to NYMag, Chris is accusing Tory of something called tortious interference, a legal term for intentionally sabotaging his contractual or other business relationships. More
Labor Day is Monday, the kids are counting the final hours to school starts again and you…well you have been working the whole time so it really doesn’t make a difference. But we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the big stories of the summer that distracted you from doing work and dominated all of the break room discussions. Summer is slow and we need these little cultural highlights to keep us going and break up those long days. Now we may be a bit biased in some of our choices but see what you think. Here are the 11 big stories that distracted you from work this summer.
TMZ reports that Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s divorce is now officially finalized and Katie will only receive a “modest” $400,000 in child support from her rich ex-husband. According to the settlement, Cruise will pay Holmes $400,000 a year in child support, totaling approximately $33,000 per month. The money, which will reportedly be paid by electronic transfer, is said to be significantly less than a judge may have ordered had they gone to court. It sounds like Katie is going to really have to get working if she wants to keep living her very nice lifestyle. More
Don’t you hate it when you start a high-end designer clothing line on the side of your career of being a celebrity and then your former best friend does the same thing and you both get your shows scheduled for the same day at fashion week? Yeah that hasn’t happened to us either but it is happening to former besties Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham. This year Victoria’s successful clothing line will be showing on September 9, the very same day as Katie’s Holmes & Yang’s New York Fashion Week runway debut. Their friendship is already on the fritz, and now that they are competitors, it doesn’t look like they will be holding hands and skipping anytime soon. More

Can I hire one of these people? Who amongst us here could not use someone to help us boost our confidence all day? According to The Daily Mail, Katie Holmes has hired a confidence coach to get her career back on track: “Katie is keen to find her own voice so she has sought professional help and has employed a confidence and life coach who she’s been seeing once a week to help her regain who she once was.”
Elle Magazine and the dozens of tabloid magazines aren’t the only ones that are going to benefit from the collapse of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s marriage and Katie’s subsequent new girl power and elevated celebrity status. Unlike Elle which saw a surge in sales with its Katie cover story (which the interview for was done months in advance) during one of its toughest ad months. C magazine interviewed Holmes for its September cover just one day before the divorce filing. The story was done when Katie knew full well her entire life was about to change which means this relatively little-known publication could be put on the map because of one interview. More
We recently wrote about how Katie Holmes’s career would most likely benefit from her recent divorce to Tom Cruise. We were mostly talking about her acting career but apparently this applies to her career as a fashion designer as well. Holmes clothing line that she founded with Jeanne Yang has suddenly experienced an increase in sales. I wonder why?
