The power of the television medium in politics is an amazing thing. In can be argued that in the 1960s it was that famous televised debate that helped JFK beat Nixon in the election and even today it still can make a difference in the perception of a politician. Jennifer Granholm, the former Governor of Michigan, showed us this with her speech last night at the Democratic National Convention. The press has labeled the speech and her performance as”crazy” and “over the top.” But the convention audience appeared to love the speech and reciprocated her enthusiasm. Granholm’s speech is a lesson in the appeal of speaking in person versus an edited television viewing of a speech. More
