A study today out of London found that three fifths of people form their opinion of someone within just five seconds of meeting them and more than a third said appearance was everything when forming first impression. Almost half of Britons revealed that appearance is the most important factor to consider in an interview situation – over experience or qualifications. A third of respondents admitted to judging a colleague on their first day of work based on the clothes they were wearing. This means that when hiring people we tend to lean towards the more attractive. But you may want to be careful of this because another new study says that “gorgeous” people are often less outgoing, less friendly and self obsessed and maybe not an ideal employee. More

Last night’s Gallery Girls season finale was pretty disappointing and well, just really depressing. I mean we saw some happiness for Amy Poliakoff but for Maggie Schaffer, a 20-something woman who has been working as an intern at the Elie Klein gallery for three years (or three months according to him) and was finally (it seemed) about to get a paying job at the Bernarducci Meisel Gallery, we saw real sadness. After interviewing twice at a gallery (one interview included working for a day), they brought her in a third time to not only tell her she didn’t get the job but why she didn’t get the job. They basically told her she was not meant for a career in the art world. It was pretty tough to swallow, but it makes me wonder, should you tell a job candidate why they aren’t getting the position? More
