Over at Slate Libby Copeland made a fuss about female news anchors wearing no sleeves on camera. She said that for some notable anchors like Mika Brzezinski, Gretchen Carlson, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford (I guess we can call them news anchors?) sleeveless dresses and tops could even be called defining characteristics for them. Yes, female anchors are less covered up than they were even 20 years ago (she mentioned that in her first few years at Today Katie Couric wore turtlenecks under blazers) but why the hell do we care? When “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts announced in June that she had been diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called MDS, she said that she would undergo a bone-marrow transplant this fall, and would eventually have to miss a few months of work. Her last day at work before the transplant was supposed to be tomorrow, but this morning Roberts said that she had moved up her last day to today. She said today she is “about to embark upon a journey,” adding, “This will be my final morning for a while.” More »

Ann Curry Has Become Nothing But A Pawn In The Today Show/GMA Battle

Ann Curry is mostly likely being fired from The Today Show because of a 37-year long feud between Today and Good Morning America and it’s unfair. For the first time in 16 years, during the month of April, GMA beat Today in the ratings. Even though Today was back on top a few days later, the network has decided this is clearly Anne’s fault because she is the newest addition to the anchor seat (she took the helm last year after Meredith Vieira left.) After years of being an extremely loyal employee and hard worker, Ann Curry has becoming nothing but a pawn in a corporate money battle.

While the former-governor might not entice me to turn on The Today Show this week, it’s not like NBC was completely off-the-wall when they decided to bring in the Original Rogue to co-anchor the morning show. I respect this woman’s career as a political commentator and a television personality, even if I don’t agree with her politics. At all. Like not even a little.

If someone who vehemently disagree with this woman can be accepting of Palin on The Today Show, you would expect that her co-workers over at NBC could at least be civil with her, right? I guess that would make you just as naive as me. More »
