Startups are the hot thing now, right? There is no better time to work at a startup and interning at one can really jumpstart your professional career. Red. It is a lot more than a color. Just ask Taylor Swift. Red means power. And when women sport red, whether with a stunning dress, a great pair of heels, or a little bit of lipstick, it is a major power move. After all, red is what got Dorothy home, gave Gwen Stefani her signature pout, and helped Scarlett O’Hara steal every scene.
Perhaps more so than our male counterparts, women—whether in the workplace or in our personal lives—have a tendency to downplay our achievements. Rather than talking up our accomplishments, we try to appear as though we’re not bragging. It’s finally here. Summer is just around the corner which means, for many of us, Summer Fridays are coming into play. For adults, Summer Fridays are pretty much the equivalent of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory (minus all that gratuitous killing of innocent children). Sometimes you’ve got to take a few steps backward in order to make that giant leap forward in the right direction—because it builds momentum to get over life’s hurdles, right? At least, that’s what I tell myself every time I think about being the girl I always said I’d never be, but totally and completely was: the girl who moved for her boyfriend. More
Unless you strike gold with your career path at the age of 23, chances are you will find yourself transitioning in and out of companies. Saying goodbye to the people and places to which you have contributed your time can be nerve-wracking, exciting, or emotional; but regardless of the circumstance, it is important to transition out of a company with the same appreciation and grace with which you came into it. The old song goes, “Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends. Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends.” The lyrics are so simple, and yet the message is so true. But often that simple concept of support, a little help, is easily forgotten, especially when we all get caught up in going full speed in our careers. But this is when we need the help the most. We need it from mentors, but we also need it from our peers.

Five years spent working from home has provided me with my fair share of conference call snafus. Truth be told, this article could easily be titled “7 Ways I Humiliated Myself Via Skype.” Fortunately, armed with a small dose of common sense, mastering the teleconference can be simpler than uploading an email attachment. In other words? I’ve learned the following lessons the hard way, so you don’t have to.

Ah, parents. It seems that regardless of how strong or distant, the relationships we have with our parents are life-altering.
