Though we find it unfair that women in politics still have their looks and clothing focused on after they make a speech (i.e. every woman that spoke at the RNC and DNC so far), we have decided to embrace this and also only focus on what women are wearing despite their political credentials. Though Ann Romney’s RNC speech is getting a lot of attention so is the Oscar de la Renta dress she wore. Apparently, her gorgeous dress had subtext. Did you know dresses could have subtext? By wearing the dress by this particular designer it was considered a dig at Michelle Obama and the entire Democratic party, who has never worn Oscar de la Renta. Whether or not Ann did have that in mind when she selected it, isn’t the point. What is amazing is the power that women in politics and in the spotlight can convey in a a single article of clothing. Here’s a complaint familiar to feminist media-watchers: The political candidate is a serious, accomplished person, but the media insist on asking frivolous questions and writing frivolous stories. The Tory Burch Foundation, a fund group started by Tory Burch with the specific purpose of helping women entrepreneurs in various fields receive financing, just got a new leader. Terri McCullough has been named Executive Director of the Tory Burch Foundation. In this position, she will provide leadership, manage programs and operations as well as develop long-term strategy.
