Leave it to the Daily Mail to spin a story of egregious, persistent sexual harassment into a story about a spoiled, delusional woman who needs to be put in her place. More

In Sheryl Sandberg’s new book, “Lean In,” she suggests that part of the problem facing women in the workplace is reluctance from male executives to mentor younger female employees. Is she right? More

Though the Easter Bunny got a lot of attention this weekend, someone else did as well. Her name is Susan Patton and she is a Princeton alum, class of 1977. She caused quite a ruckus when she wrote a letter to The Daily Princetonian, Princeton University’s college paper, urging female students there to find there husbands now because the odds will never be as good for them in terms of finding smart men. The letter went viral, causing the college newspaper’s site to crash. Some people find this advice to be a little upsetting and also a bit snobby, as Patton feels that her marriage was somewhat doomed because her ex-husband didn’t attend Princeton. More

Warning: the journey we’re about to embark on is long and fraught with misogyny. Pack light, stay positive, and beware: here be men who believe “misandry” is a thing.
I’m sure when Adria Richards attended this year’s PyCon, a conference for people to discuss the Python programming language, she didn’t have any explicit plans to get a developer fired, become an Internet pariah, or be publicly fired from her own job, but that’s exactly what happened. More

One of my happiest moments recently was when my little sister told me she wants to be an engineer. An engineer! A mechanical engineer, she said, or maybe bio.
Little sister, please keep it that way. More

International Women’s Day is a holiday that honors the strength and sacrifice of countless women around the world; it’s an occasion that reignites the global initiative to empower women and young girls, and draws attention to gender-based violence and disenfranchisement. International Women’s Day is a time to commemorate women’s extraordinary economic, political and social achievements through public demonstrations and discussions — or, you can celebrate the day like a FOX affiliate in Connecticut did: force everyone to watch footage of faceless women’s breasts bouncing through a crowd. Humina humina humina! Women’s Day is awesome because women have boobs and boobs are awesome! B (.) (.) B S! More

Unfortunately, being a female journalist isn’t quite the same as it looked on Murphy Brown — interviewees don’t take you seriously, male co-workers undermine and harass you, and there are fewer shoulder pads than you had expected. Female journalists have to contend with sexism from both the men they profile and the men they work with; just last year, Aaron Sorkin sparked controversy when he referred to The Globe and Mail‘s Sarah Nicole Prickett as “Internet Girl.” If you need further proof of the slights and stereotypes female journalists encounter on the job, check out the new blog “Said to Lady Journos,” a anonymous catalog of the sexism and harassment many women deal with in the field. When the Oscar nominations were announced in January, we noticed right away that women had been completely shut out of at least seven entire categories, including best director. We also knew the ceremony would be hosted by the king of bro humor, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Somehow, we still didn’t know just how lousy last night would be for women. More

Nascar driver Danica Patrick made history last weekend when she “took the pole” at the Daytona 500 trials. That’s a racing term meaning she had the fastest time in qualifying rounds, and will start the race this weekend in the lead position. To a lot of douchebags, it’s also an occasion to make gross jokes on Twitter. Let’s shame them! More
When Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) was sworn into Congress last month, she became the first disabled woman in the House of Representatives. A veteran of the war in Iraq, she lost both her legs in combat as a helicopter pilot. After returning to the US, she served in the Department of Veterans Affairs, and then launched her successful campaign for Congress. She was also the subject of a great interview in the New York Times magazine this week that made clear: You do not mess with Tammy Duckworth. Here are our favorite three questions and answers, in which Duckworth explains what’s sexist, what’s sexual harassment, and why whining against women in combat “doesn’t make any sense at all.” More

Much has been said, written, and dirge-d (I’m look at you, Robert Burns) about man’s inhumanity to man. Even man’s humanity to man has gotten its fair share of news coverage. After years of study and lying in wait, I have finally discovered woman’s ultimate inhumanity to woman: the GoDaddy commercials. Yes, it’s true; it turns out that The Man behind the most sexist and offensive advertisements shown during the Super Bowl (and that’s saying a lot) is a woman. More

While I was perusing Twitter this morning, I came across an AOL jobs piece titled Tactics That Will Help You Get a Raise (If You’re Female). I’m sure plenty of people reading this piece were hoping to get some concrete advice regarding navigating the workplace structures that contribute to the gender wage gap, but unfortunately, this article’s advice only seemed to perpetuate the problem.
